Once again, I can happily say that low cost, good theater in an easily accessible setting is available on Long Island. Looking for something to do with friends (other than eat), on a cold January night, I came across information about “It’s Only a Play” at the Star Playhouse. Considering the low cast we figured “what could we lose?”
Parking was easy in the huge, paved, parking lot with an entire row of handicapped spaces. Street-level, double doors led to another set of doors and then the marble lobby of the Y. We made our way to the box office (on the left), purchased our tickets and walked across the lobby to the double door theater entrance.
We were pleasantly surprised to find an approximately 600 seat theater with wide, carpeted aisles. Wheelchair and companion seating is accommodated in the rear. We settled in, not really expecting much. Boy, were we surprised! The production was so good. The cast was terrific, obviously giving their all to their performances, and it showed!
Just to mention, intermission was a hit with my husband. The Y’s café was open, with a large choice of snacks.
Multi-stall restrooms, with handicapped-accessible stalls are located in the hallway near the theater entrance. There are baby-changing facilities.
Considering the quality of what we were treated to, we wish it was publicized more. We found it by accident!
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.starplayhouse.com, to “know before you go.”
