Another beautiful summer afternoon brought us to another lovely, outdoor venue, on Huntington Harbor. “Prime” is “designed to reflect the look of a classic boathouse along the Charles River.” It is a multi-level venue “dedicated to the expression of modern American cuisine.” (web) You can dine in the beautiful main dining room, spend time in the lounge (with a fireplace and couches, enjoy some time by the fire pit deck, and drink and/or dine on the outdoor patio/ deck. Of course, I chose a high table and chairs as close to the dock and water as we could get! Eating on the deck means a more “casual” menu, which was fine with us. Our salads, lobster and crab rolls were among the best we have had all season! Our server, Ashley, was lovely, helping us get under cover quickly as a rain shower passed by! Then back to dry seats and a serene setting as we watched the boats in the harbor.
Valet parking makes life easier. From the parking lot there is a step up to the brick sidewalk and eight steps to the entrance. If steps are a problem you can go around to the right, where we found a ramp that got us to a door leading to the lounge/fireplace area. Walk through here to the hostess area. If you are sitting in the main dining room, going to the bar, or sitting on the “porch,” no need to worry about navigating any steps. The main dining room is spacious with easy navigation between tables, There is ample space in the other areas. If your goal is to sit on the deck, close to the water, don’t bother going to the ramp. Have someone in your party check-in at the hostess desk, then meet you back downstairs at the entrance, and walk around to your left, where you can get to the outdoor bar/deck area without any steps. Know that there are multi-stall, handicapped-accessible restrooms out here. If accessing the patio from indoors, you will find a set of four steps, then another set of five steps to get there. If you are sitting on the main level, eight, single-occupancy, handicapped-accessible restrooms are located behind the glass wall in the main dining room. There are no baby-changing facilities. If you are coming by boat, Prime has docking facilities. Best to call ahead to check on availability!
After our drinks, food and wonderful atmosphere, we were sorry to leave. Newsday, on 8/03/18, called it “…a serene, seductive, waterfront setting.” We agree! Almost forgot, live music was a lovely touch!
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, http://www.restaurantprime.com , when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
