We have been fortunate to attend several fabulous weddings and Bar Mitzvah celebrations at Oheka Castle, but we had never been to the restaurant before. Celebrating a friend’s birthday changed that this past Tuesday,

A fabulous estate, with fabulous grounds and beautiful view, is available for lunch or dinner. Just driving up the road and entering the lush grounds is a treat. Drive into the courtyard, and pull up as close as possible to the unadorned single door entrance, to meet the valet. One needs to pull up as close as possible because of the cobblestones underfoot. They can be difficult to navigate.

Once inside, you need to navigate a rather long hallway to get to the stairs, or elevator, which take you to the dining floor. From here it is not too far to the beautiful lounge area, where you will find the host. One can choose from either indoor or outdoor seating. Either way, the European ambiance and Old World surroundings make you feel as though you are someplace else.  The indoor dining room is lovely, with white tablecloths and fresh flowers on every table. Either area is quite peaceful and serene.

Tables are far enough apart to make navigation and conversation easy.

Our server could not have been lovelier. She made sure that everything was to our liking, checking on us regularly.

We had a wonderful table looking out at the gardens through a very large window.

The variety of lunch choices made it difficult to choose. Veggie paninis, and cobb salads turned out to be excellent choices. No birthday celebration is complete without dessert. The amazing apple tart with a candle in it was perfect for singing “Happy Birthday!”

Although there is a time limit stated on the reservation, we were never rushed and able to enjoy a lovely, relaxed, birthday lunch.

After eating we took a stroll outside to the gardens and a walk down the hallway, peering in at the other rooms, decorated with period pieces.

Two, single occupancy, restrooms are located in the hallway. One of them is accessible, with handrails, etc.

If you are interested, tours of the castle as available in conjunction with dining.

This is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion, or to just treat yourself to an “old world” experience.

As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.ohkbarandrestaurant.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
