Oceanside Park is a large, public venue, with fields, pools, etc. It was wonderful to see that they have addressed the needs of all children in their playground.

I had heard that the Park has the only playground with wheelchair-accessible swings on Long Island. Of course, I had to check it out. There they were! Wonderful! “Unlike adaptive swings, these allow kids to stay in their chairs. Ramps lock the wheels into place and the rider can engage pull chains to propel their chair.” (Mommy Poppins) The rules for use are large and clear enough for all to understand. The area for the swings is completely fenced in, as is the  entire playground. If you are going, please know that two people are required to use each swing.

The swings are set in a lovely playground that includes standard swings, climbing structures, slides and a variety of other activities in two areas for ages 2 – 5 and 5 – 12.  Benches are all around and under a gazebo for when you want a break from the sun.  A soft, safety surface is underfoot.

Multi-stall restrooms are located in the maintenance building close by. Each has a large, handicapped stall and baby changing station.
