We left the Cradle of Aviation and Firefighters’ Museums and headed toward the LICM (Long Island Children’s Museum).

Remember going to Nunley’s Amusement Park in Baldwin when you were a child, or taking your own kids? Nunley’s carousel is now located here on Museum Row. It is a beautiful, historic, 1912 carousel and one that is handicapped accessible.

As a personable young man told us, there is a ramp that can be used for a wheelchair to get on the carousel. One of the seats has a special mechanism that can lock a wheelchair in place allowing the rider to “take a spin” along with everyone else.

The carousel has been lovingly restored with beautiful scenes of Long Island on it. Vibrantly colored horses call out to you to take a ride.

In the building there is a spacious family bathroom, as well as restrooms with handicapped accessible stalls.

Just outside the carousel building are some lovely benches and plantings where one can relax and enjoy the children having a great time.
