New Year’s Eve, found us visiting friends in Montauk. Due to a mix-up, our original reservation for dinner at a local restaurant did not happen.  This turned out to be lucky for us.  We found Michael‘s, in East Hampton. Not exactly around the corner but, since the weather was OK, it was not too far.

Michael’s is a family owned restaurant (open year-round), located in a residential neighborhood near Maidstone Beach. It has been here for over 40 years.  The website states that it is “…homey, charming and unpretentious…comfortable and sophisticated at the same time…” Yes, yes, yes, to all of these. If you are a wine lover they offer 40 different wines by the glass and 425 by the bottle. (web)  We found Michael’s to be warm and welcoming (our server Donna, was great!). The website also says they offer a “…variety of cuisine that includes a blend of European and American, infused with some Asian flair.”  We can attest to that, as the six of us had a variety of items from Asian Steamed Dumplings, Crab and Lobster Ravioli, Crab Cocktail,  Rack of Lamb, to Salmon. EVERYTHING was delicious! Desserts were wonderful as well.  We were told that the menu changes often. We will be happy to check it out!

We drove up to find two handicapped spaces in the small, paved parking lot. There is a short, wooden ramp to the single door entrance. Once inside, the full-height bar is on the right. Wood floors lead to several dining areas. We found a combination of tables, booths and banquettes throughout. Although not spacious, there is adequate space between tables. I suspect the configuration is somewhat better during non-holiday times.

There are two, large, single-occupancy restrooms which are considered handicapped-accessible. There is only one handrail for assistance. The restrooms are located in a somewhat “tight” hallway.

Our “mix-up” for dinner turned into a wonderful New Year’s surprise at Michael’s.  We are looking forward to returning when the weather is warm enough for us to really look around outside, and enjoy an amazing meal inside.

As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, http://www.michaelsofmaidstone.com, when planning a visit, to know before you go.
