I think we may have found our new “go to” Italian restaurant. La Scala, in Commack, was an incredible experience on all levels; food, service, friendless and price. What could be better? Friends introduced us to this great venue one evening for dinner.

Located in the North Shore Farms shopping center on Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, parking was easy in the large paved lot. Although outdoor dining is set up in the parking lot, it is nicely done.

Street-level, double doors lead to a small entryway. Going through the next set of double doors takes you to the pizzeria in the front. Based on the number of people picking up, it must be great. We will have to try it soon.

Onward to the dining room itself, a large, lovely area with extremely well-spaced tables, as well as booths and a full-height bar.  The best part was yet to come. Once seated our gracious server brought delicious garlic rolls to the table. I could easily have made a meal of these and a salad!

La Scala has been in business more than 45 years. “One family – and fresh tomato sauce made from scratch each morning make this a landmark in the community. A taste of tradition in a fast and ever changing world, La Scala is more than just a restaurant, it is food for the old Italian soul where we go above and beyond to make your family feel like part of our own.” (website)

It was difficult to make a choice from the extensive menu. With some help from our friends and our wonderful server, we decided on salads (easily large enough for three to share), stuffed mushrooms (fabulous), one chicken and one veal entree. Each of the entrees was served with pasta, and large enough for a full meal the next day. My stuffed mushroom, which was listed as an appetizer, could also have served two, but was so delicious that I devoured all of it myself!

Our delightful server kept checking to see that all was well. It definitely was!

Large, single-occupancy, accessible restrooms,, with a baby-changing stations,  are located in a hallway to the left of the dining room.

Everything was perfect! We will surely be back soon.

As Always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, www.lascalacommack.com, when planning a visit to “know before you go.”
