We are in Killington regularly. We have being going there for many years. On a freezing, snowy night we don’t want to stray too far from the hotel for dinner. Neither do most others. Restaurants located on “the access road” are in demand.
One of the restaurants that has been around quite a while, and deserves to continue being there, is “The Garlic.” Unfortunately, this establishment isn’t completely wheelchair accessible, which is the case for many of these places that are “older.”
The gravel parking lot has two handicapped-accessible spaces. A ramp (part brick, park rubber, part wood), leads to the single door entrance. There is a small “saddle” at the door. A long, waiting area with benches is to your left.
Once inside one finds a “wam and cozy dining experience. The Garlic is an…Italian roadhouse with an ambience and menu reminiscent of the Tuscan countryside…” (website)
It is possible to sit on the main level, either at a booth or table, and use the restrooms (not handicapped-accessible), without needing any steps. The full-height bar, separated from the dining room by swinging doors, is also on this level.
Seating on the lower level requres four steps down.
The decor and lighting are just right for the relaxed meal with friendly and caring service we always find when we visit.
One of the great things about this venue is the roasted garlic served with warm, fresh bread, served to each table. We think it’s quite a treat! Your server will be happy to give you as much as you want. Just ask. There is an extensive wine list. Dinner is always good and always served with a smile. Tonight was a salad, Chicken Piccata, and Garlic Mussels, all delicious.
The Garlic is one of our “go to” places when we are in snow country. It is also one of the few places at Killington that is open year round.
As of January, 2022, things are still as good as always here!
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, www.thegarlic.net, when planning a visit, to know before you go.
