A gracious invitation by Debbie Forth brought us to the Courtyard by Marriott, LI MacArthur Airport to see their party/conference spaces. This hotel is centrally located, on the Service Road of the Long Island Expressway.
Seven handicapped spaces in the large, paved parking lot are close to the main entrance. Street-level, automatic, double glass doors lead to a foyer and another set of automatic doors open into the carpeted lobby. This inviting area has a variety of seating options. It is nice that the registration counters are easily accessible for wheelchair users. We noticed the “Bistro” just off the lobby, offering a variety of breakfast and dinner options, an evening bar, and specialty beverages. (website) Next to the Bistro is a lovely, den-like area with couches and a large screen TV. From this area one can easily access the outdoor seating area, which includes a barbeque and/or picnic area, complete with a fire pit! Multi-stall, handicapped-accessible restrooms, with baby-changing stations are conveniently located just off the lobby.
The Bistro is the sole restaurant in the hotel. However, the hallway to the left of the lobby leads to a side door and a short walk across the parking lot to 2 restaurants.
We took one of the two elevators to the “Venue on Seven.” The easily accessible, light filled party space can be divided, depending on the size of the group. We loved the “bar/lounge area”that we found on our way from the elevator to the party room entrance; a nice place for those wishing to get away from the festivities for a bit! The flat carpeting in the hallways is easy to navigate. Multi-stall, handicapped-accessible restrooms are located in the hallway. Debbie told us that there are several small conference rooms on the main floor.
Although we were not here to review the hotel rooms, Debbie showed us a few of the twelve handicapped-accessible rooms the hotel has to offer. Since they are different configurations, if you are interested in one of them, please contact the hotel directly and someone will be happy to help you select the one that will best fit your needs. If Debbie is the face of this hotel, we are sure that all of your needs will be graciously met.
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, www.marriott.com, when planning a visit, to know before you go. You can call the hotel directly at (631) 612 – 5000.
