A beautiful March day, 60 degrees, and our second vaccine done, had us stopping for a late lunch at Bar Frites. We had heard that they have been doing outdoor dining and we were in the neighborhood, so we decided to give it a try.  It turned out to be a great idea. Since it was after 2:00 pm, we didn’t have to wait for a table in the sun. Bar Frites has always had nice outdoor dining during warmer weather, Now they have tables not only in their dedicated dining area, but also on the sidewalk, past several stores on either side of them. The tables are well spaced, making navigation easy. Heaters near each table, although not needed today, are probably welcome on many days and evenings. Tables covered with linen tablecloths and accompanying napkins were a lovely touch.

Bar Frites is located in Wheatley Plaza, Greenvale. The large, paved, parking lot has six handicapped spaces close to the restaurant and others throughout the lot. There are several curb cuts near the handicapped spaces. The sidewalk and patio area are smooth brick.

If you choose to dine inside, there is a street level, single door, entryway, and then double doors to the hostess area. Tables inside have been well-spaced. There are also banquettes, booths and a full-height bar.

Bar Frites is described as a “hip, urban bistro that gives one the feeling of being in Northern France.” (website) They offer “French fare in a setting that features a bistro menu.” (website) We cannot speak for their dinner menu, but our lunch was delicious. I had one of the best veggie burgers I have ever eaten. My partner’s hamburger was delicious (and huge). Our server was very attentive and professional.  All of the staff we saw wore their masks correctly. Menus are scanned on your phone. My only complaint is that there was no hand-sanitizer evident. Actually, I had one other disappointment in that the restaurant does not have any Covid information on their website, There is no indication of what they are doing to help their patrons and staff stay safe.

Multi-stall restrooms, with a large, handicapped-stall are located in the rear of the restaurant, after the bar and main dining area. The sink is wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately, there are no baby-changing stations.

Our first foray in dining out, in this “almost spring” weather was a success!

We think yours will be a success as well.

As always, we at Destination:Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, http://www.pollrestaurants.com">www.pollrestaurants.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
