Description
The Argyle Theatre is located at 34 West Main Street, Babylon. A small parking lot next to the theatre has two accessible spaces. Parkng can also be found on the street, in a municipal lot around the corner, or, after 6:00 pm, in the bank parking lot across the street.Street-level, double doors lead to the carpeted lobby. The box office is to the left. Two, single-occupancy, restrooms are located to the right. One of them is accessible. Towards the back there is a concession area with drinks (including alcoholic) and snacks. You will find benches here as well.
No steps are required to access orchestra seating. Wide aisles that are lit have a slight decline to all seats. High back, upholstered seats are wide and have an unusual amount of legroom. No one has to get up from his/her seat for someone to pass. Wheelchair and companion seating are at the rear.
There is no elevator to the balcony. Sitting up here requires a full flight of steps. There are then steps to all seats. Multi-stall restrooms and a small bar are up here as well. Note, however, that more steps are required to get to them.

The Capitol Theater of Babylon originally opened in 1921 as a “live theatrical venue.” After becoming a movie theater, it remained open until 2014. In 2018 it was resurrected once again as a live performance space. It has orchestra and balcony seating, and an orchestra pit. Since it is an “equity” theater, the public is the beneficiary of professional performers from the Broadway Stage, making for great performances.
On this early Saturday in April we were treated to “That Motown Band,” a group of talented performers who transported us back in time with their lively renditions of the Motown Sound! It brought back wonderful memories and had us singing along and dancing in our seats!
There is a very small parking area adjacent to the building with two accessible spaces. Besides this, there are several municipal lots close by. After 6:00 pm, I believe the street parking meters are not enforced.
Street-level, double-doors, lead to the spacious, carpeted lobby. The box office is to the left and two, single-occupancy, restrooms (one of which is accessible) are to the right. Straight ahead is a drink/snack counter (alcoholic drinks are available.) Beyond the snack bar is a lounge area with benches. With the theater open an hour before show time, patrons can sit, relax, and have a drink.
From the lobby it is easy to enter the orchestra level of the theater without any steps. The carpeting continues throughout. The aisles (no steps) are quite wide, with lighting along the side. The upholstered seats are extremely wide, with high back, cup holders and great space between rows. If someone needs to enter or exit, no one who is seated has to stand up to let them pass. Wheelchair and companion seating is available in the rear.
If you choose a balcony seat, know that the only way up is by a full set of stairs (12 steps). Also know that, you will have to walk more steps to your seats. Multi-stall restrooms, as well as a bar/lounge, are up here as well, but they require going up and down five steps to get to them.
If you have questions or concerns about seating, or anything else, someone will be happy to help you. Just give them a call at (844) 631-5483.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.argyletheater.com, to “know before you go.”
