A visit from folks who no longer live in New York, brought us to Ben’s for dinner. It is fondly remembered as a comfortable place with great food, and it never seems to disappoint. The homemade coleslaw and pickles themselves are reasons to return!
Ben’s, Woodbury, is one of three locations on Long Island. “Family owned since 1972 it serves Kosher Deli and Eastern European comfort foods.” (website) Everything is freshly prepared and we think everything is quite good.
Located in a small shopping area, parking is plentiful in the large lot. There are four accessible spaces close to the restaurant. The main door is a revolving one, but there is a single, accessible door, just to the left.
The take-out counter is to the left. One has to walk past the counter to get to the hostess seating area for a booth or table. All chairs are armless. There is seating to accommodate everyone, with adequate space to navigate. In the rear, there is a large, open-area that is easy to get to, that can easily accommodate wheelchairs, baby carriages, etc. If you can’t manage walking past the deli counter, you can be seated from the entrance, just tell them. Everyone is very accommodating.
Once seated, coleslaw and pickles arrived on the table almost immediately. Overstuffed roast beef, brisket, corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, plus perfectly crispy french fries, made for a delicious meal with fond memories for all. We can’t forget to say thank you to our lovely server, who made sure that everything was perfect for us!
Multi-stall restrooms, with an accessible stall, accessible sink and baby-changing station are located in a hallway in the rear.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.bensdeli.net, when planning a visit, to “know more about the venue.”
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
