Description
There is a large “drop-off area” with flat, easy access to the main entrance of the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. There are handicapped parking spaces close to the entrance. There is seating in the lobby. Snacks may be purchased pre-concert and during intermission.
The entrance to the theater is fully accessible. The theater has “ample seating…for patrons in wheelchairs. The seating is in the central area of the house, and is accessed without needing to walk up or down steps. Patrons may sit together with other ticket-buyers and enjoy excellent visibility to the stage.” (website) Access to regular seating is easy as well. The aisles are wide with a gentle incline.
The main restrooms are multi-stall with the handicapped stalls at the far end. A single-occupancy “family bathroom” can be made available if one asks. Call the house manager in advance (516-299-3193) and let her know of your need. If you forget to call ahead, you can tell the person when you arrive and he/she will make it happen.

My husband and I went to see The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. I took along my checklist for Destination Accessible to see how accessible it actually is.
There is a large drop-off area with flat, easy access to the main entrance. There are handicapped parking spaces available close to the entrance. Handicapped parking is also available on the upper level of the parking lot, with a ramp to the main entrance.
Entering the lobby we found many chairs, a nice touch if one arrives early. There were also pre-concert snacks available for purchase.

The main restrooms are multi-stall with the handicapped stalls at the far end. When I asked if there is a single-occupancy family bathroom, I was told that one could be made available if one asks. It was suggested that it is a good idea to call the house manager in advance (516-299-3193) and let her/him know of your need. If you forget to call ahead you can tell the person when you arrive and he/she will make it happen.

By the way, the performance was great fun!
