If you are headed to the Long Island Entertainment Hall of Fame and Museum, or The Jazz Loft, and if you can handle a restroom that is large, but not accessible, Sweet Mama’s, Stony Brook, is a great place for something to eat.
Located in the heart of Stony Brook Village, it is close to both of the venues mentioned.
There are accessible parking spaces in various locations of the parking lot.
If you can manage it, you can park closer to the venue you are going to and walk over to Sweet Mama’s.
Sweet Mama’s is “all about good times and comfort food.” They, “understand that the main ingredient in comfort food is nostalgia.” They are ”…constantly refining their recipes and coming up with specials always keeping nostalgia in mind.” (website)
Sweet Mama’s is family friendly. We can attest to that by the number of families with small children were dining when we were there. We have to say that all of them were very well behaved!
It is part ice dream shop, part restaurant, and part bar. In the summer there is great outdoor seating on their lovely deck.
The street-level, single door entrance gets you inside. Go to the left for the ice cream shop, to the right for the restaurant and bar. There are several tables on this level, but the main dining area is down three steps. Don’t despair, there is also a ramp to get there. The area has ample space for navigation to get to your table. The bar area is in the back, where the restroom is located. As I stated earlier, although it is a decent size, unfortunately, it is not accessible. (take a look at the photos)
The decor is definitely “home style” with welcoming vibes. Our server was incredible nice. The varied menu made choosing difficult. The four of us each ordered something different – crab cakes, chicken, a mediterranean wrap and an omelette. Everything was delicious ! The sweet potato fries were amazing!
We have been here several times when going to an event at The Jazz Loft, and will definitely keep coming back!
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, when planning a visit, to “know before you go,”
