We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the Seventh Street Cafe in Garden City. It is a charming venue, with old world charm and a fresh look.
Located on bustling 7th Street, one would be wise to park in the lot behind the restaurant. Not only is it easier to drop someone off and find one of the accessible spots throughout the lot, the single door entrance back here is street-level. If you choose to enter on 7th Street, you will encounter a step up from the stone walkway to the single door.
Once inside, we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. Along the way we saw the full-height bar area, and several dining areas, all of which are lovely. Booths and tables with armless chairs, can serve everyones’ needs. There is ample space to navigate among tables, and we were told that the staff will do whatever it takes to accommodate anyone. If you can, it would be best to call in advance and tell them of your needs. I loved the combination of round, square, and rectangular tables, that allows for many configurations. Another thing we loved were the linen tablecloths and napkins for lunch. This special touch shows people how much the establishment cares about them.
We were seated in the area with the large windows, looking out on the street. Being a lovely, spring day, we were able to appreciate the trees in bloom and the blue sky above.
The lunch menu is quite varied, with something for everyone. This made it difficult to choose. Our final choices, “Gamberi Oreganata” and “Pollo Verde,” served with side salads, were exceptional! I can only think that everything on the menu would have been just as delicious!
Our server was professional, yet friendly, checkin on us to make sure that everything was OK.
Multi-stall restrooms are located downstairs. The large, accessible, single-occupancy restroom is located on the main level, near the bar area. It was very thoughtful that the mirror above the sink was located low enough so that a wheelchair user can see it. This is not something that many establishments do.
We had a wonderful, relaxing lunch at the Seventh Street Cafe, and will definitely be back. I think that this would be a lovely venue for a Bridal, Baby Shower, or some other event. The ambiance, service and food would put it at the top of my list.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.seventhstreetcafe.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
