We had already been to the Pool Deck and Connie Cocktail Lounge, but still felt the need to check out the Paris Cafe and Lisbon Bar at the TWA Hotel. A reservation was recommended, so we made one. When we arrived, around 7:00 pm, the place was not very busy. We don’t know what you will find, so check with the hotel if you are thinking of going. The restaurant encourages reservations, the bar does not take them – if is first-come, first- served.
Located on the mezzazine level (24 steps or elevator, which is on the opposite side of this level) of the original TWA Terminal, the bar and restaurant have keep the entire footprint of the original venues. Very 60s retro, both are low-key venues. We were welcomed by hosts in original uniforms, and escorted to our seats. We had a banquette , which was quite comfortable. Tables, as well as a long, low counter make up the remainder of the seating. Everything is open, with a light, airy feel. The Lisbon Bar is connected as one turns the corner, with comfortable seating there as well.
I was somewhat disappointed that the restaurant didn’t have a view of the runways, but my husband pointed out that there was a hotel in the way!.
Our server was lovely, and very patient, as I could not decide what to order. I ended up with the shrimp burger, which was excellent. Our meal was relaxed and delicious.
Up on the mezzanine level, we also found the TWA Uniform museum. Interesting!
Since there are no restrooms on this level, one must return to the lobby level to find one of the multi-stall, or single-occupancy, handicapped-accessible restrooms.
As alwys, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to check a venue’s website, www.twahotel.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
