Oniro Taverna occupies the space where Majors Steakhouse spent many years. It now has a relaxing, subtle look and was a great place for a leisurely lunch.
Four handicapped (van)- accessible parking spaces are located on the side of the building. The paved, parking lot is large. I was told that valet parking is available at busy times. If you cannot manage the four stone steps to the double-door entrance, there is a ramp right there. An entryway and another set of double doors got us to the welcome area.
As I looked around, I was delighted by the light natural feel of the decor. The look is reminiscent of the Greek seaside. We found the live plants, fishing nets and other touches quite lovely.
To the left is a full-height bar/loung area, which has some small tables as well as a communal one.
There are three dining areas; the main one, a mezzanine level (which requires two steps up) and an enclosed veranda, which faces Jericho Turnpike. Booths, banquettes, and tables have ample space between them. A combination of wood and tile are on the floor. There is also a private room upstairs – requiring 18 steps (no elevator).
The lunch menu is varied, incljuding a prix fix option. We opted for two different chicken dishes, each of which was excellent. Our server was very pleasant and professional, making sure we had everything we wanted.
The main floor has a large, single-occupancy, restroom, which does not have handrails. The multi-stall restrooms are located downstairs (16 steps). The private room upstairs (16 steps) has its own restrooms. There are no baby-changing stations.
