Time between appointments brought me to O Sole Mio in Stony Brook for some lunch.
Located in a strip mall on Nesconset Highway, near a movie theater and other stores, there is ample parking, including accessible spaces throughout the paved lot.
As I walked toward the street-level, double doors to enter, I was impressed by a sign in the window stating, “We Care! Curbside assistance is available for customers with small children and those with special needs.” How lovely to tell this to your customers without them having to ask. After that sign, I was prepared for a wonderful experience, which was what I had.
The front of the venue is dedicated to their pizza – which, based on how crowded it was, seems to do a booming business. I will have to return to try the pizza.
I made my way to the dining area and was quickly shown to a table. Tablecloths at lunch – I love it! That was just the beginning. Delicious rolls, oil and olives made for a wonderful start. Citrus flavored water was another delightful surprise. The lunch menu is quite extensive. My Tuscan Spinach Salad, with fresh pineapple and other goodies was exceptional. As I peered around at the other tables, everything looked great! I don’t want to forget to mention that my server was lovely and efficient.
Seating is at tables, booths and banquettes. The mural on the wall makes the room sparkle. Everything is well spaced, making navigation easy. As someone with a walker came in to meet another diner, I watched the host accompany her to her seat. I was again impressed! There is also some outdoor seating, on the sidewalk.
My only disappointment came as I went to use the single-occupancy restrooms, They are located in a hallway that is half blocked by extra dining chairs, which would make if difficult for a wheelchair or walker user to get by. I hope they consider moving them to another location. The restrooms themselves are fine.
O Sole Mio is definitely a winner! We will be happy to return!
