Northport Village Park (Cow Harbor Park) is a wonderful place. This beautiful, historic park is easily accessible, with paved paths, lots of benches and accessible restrooms. It has a marina, playground, lots of benches, and a beautiful view of Northport Harbor. There is lots of room for picnicking or just relaxing on the grass. Have a seat on one of the benches and enjoy watching the boats come and go in the harbor.
Being very close to Main Street and the heart of Northport, it’s easy to go for a stroll and take in some of the galleries, shops, and eateries along the way. Since this is a very told town, take note that many of the shops are not accessible and have a step or two up to their entrances.
Check out the many delicious choices for eating, whether it’s breakfast, lunch, brunch, or dinner. ( see our listings for Copenhagen Bakery, Tim’s Shipwreck Diner, Salted on the Harbor, La Porta, The Northport Hotel). There’s even an ice cream shop and brewery. One of our favorite things to do is stop by Copenhagen Bakery, get breakfast or lunch, take it across the street and eat by the water.
The park is lovely to visit at any time of the year. We stroll along the dock and sit under the gazebo. We walk the paved paths within the park, sometimes stopping to read the poetry markers. The harbor is always busy. We either park on the street or in the town lot near the park. There are six accessible spaces close to the dock and others on Main Street. The park is very dog friendly. We always see them happily meeting other dogs.
There is always something going on here. Whether it’s an art show, Cow Harbor Weekend, free concerts during the summer and a Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings, this is a fun place to be. We love it!
A free standing building within the playground has multi-stall restrooms with an accessible stall, accessible sinks and a baby-changing station.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, wwwvillageofnorthport.com, to know more about a venue.
