After our visit to the Holtsville Wildlife & Ecology Center we were ready for some lunch nearby. As we made our way back to the LIE, we turned off Patchogue-Holbrook Road at Main Street hoping to find an interesting place. Hummus Mediterranean Grill caught our eye; a free-standing building with a red roof and cute outdoor patio area.
This establishment is easy to reach from the Long Island Expressway, only about a mile south of Exit 61 (Patchogue-Holbrook Road). The paved parking lot (with 2 handicapped spaces) is behind the building. A paved walkway led us to the brick pario and double door entry.
Once inside we found a pleasant atmosphere and lovely help. You order from an assembly line; they make it, you take it, and enjoy. All the ingredients for each step are clearly posted. The young woman behind the counter was helpful in guiding us as “first timers!”
Their website says, “Fresh, made-from-scratch Mediterranean, healthful ingredients on the assembly line. You decide. FILL IT – TOP IT – HUMM IT and the rest is history.” My husband and I had different choices and found everything quite good.
The restaurant is easily navigable with plenty of room at the counter and among all the seating options: high and low tables and chairs inside, tables and benches on the patio.
A very large, single-occupancy, handicapped-accessible restroom is easy to get to, just to the right as you enter.
We found out that this is a new, family-owned and run operation, whose idea is “…to show that food served fast doesn’t have to be a “fast-food” esperience.” We believe they have succeeded.
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, www.hummy.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
