“Hudson Garden Grill is the first full-service dining destination to open on NYBG grounds, offering innovative New American cuisine and locally sourced ingrerdients.” (website) It is close to the Haupt Conservatory.
As we entered the double-door street level entrance, we were surprised to find this restaurant in a location that had been a cafe the last time we visited the Garden. Upon checking to make sure we were in the location we thought, we found out that, indeed, this had been a cafe. In fact, the Grill was only three days old on our visit. Surprise!
We decided to give it a try. The first thing we discovered is that, in the future, it would probably be a good idea to make reservation. Rather than waiting 1/2 hour for a table we decided to sit at the counter. An interesting location if you can sit up high as the counter faces the large, open kitchen. We were able to have a look at the food preparation as we waited for ours.
If you want to sit in the dining room you will find a pleasant, airy space with lots of room between tables. It is an easy walk (through double doors) to the multi-stall, handicapped-accessible restrooms which are equipped with baby-changing stations. There is outdoor seating, under an awning and with plastic sides for cooler weater.
Lunch was lovely and our server seemed to care that everything was more than acceptable to us. You might want to check it out!
As always we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, www.nybg.org/dining, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
Update- December 4, 2019 – We had just as nice an experience today as we had previously. A note – the garden burgers were delicious!
