It was an exceptionally beautiful day in November and we were at a meeting in Bellport. Since we had to drive west to get back to Syosset, we thought we would eat lunch at the lovely café in the Bayard Cutting Arboretum. We never imagined that a hundred other people would have the same idea. The line by the café was far too long for us. We got back in the car and drove down Montauk Highway to see if we could find another place to eat.
We saw an inviting little restaurant in East Islip called Hometown Cafe and decided to go in. We parked in the paved lot out front that has 1 designated handicapped spot and then entered through the single door that has a little lip where the saddle is. The interior of the restaurant is very homey. The floors are made of wood and tile and are flat. The tables and chairs are nicely placed and there is room to get around.
We were very pleased with our choice of dining establishment. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful and our lunches were delicious.
The single occupancy, handicapped accessible restrooms are located not far from the front door. Baby changing stations are located inside.
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website www.hometowncafeei.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
