I passed Coram Country Lanes on my way to a meeting.  With some time to spare I decided to stop by. This location is one of several owned by Maple Family Centers. It has been owned and operated by the same family for more than 50 years!

Pulling into the large, paved parking lot, I found ten handicapped (van)-accessible spaces.  A bench near the entrance is good for anyone who might need a seat.   Street-level double doors led to an entryway and another set of double doors.  I found myself in the carpeted lobby area, with the check-in on the right and the snack bar on my left.

I introduced myself to the two lovely ladies at check-in, who graciously invited me to look around.   As is the case at Farmingdale Lanes, everything is on one level and easily accessible.  There are low chairs at the lanes, with some that can be moved to accommodate all. There are also high tables and chairs. There are lane bumpers for anyone needing them, and special ramps for wheelchair users.  Just ask!

The snack bar is full height, but access to condiments and silverware is handicapped-accessible.

The separate bar/lounge area has a full-height bar, high and low tables (with ample space around them, and a pool table. This room has a small, single-occupancy restroom that is not handicapped accessible.  Multi-stall restrooms with a handicapped stall and a baby-changing station are located at the end of the building.

As I walked back to the check-in desk,  I noticed a sign saying, “Mini-bowling.”  This turned out to be the cutest thing I have seen in a long time.  The party room has six mini-alleys.”  They are considerably smaller than regulation-size lanes and are great for kids between three and six years. What a great idea for a birthday party,  or other celebration.   I was sorry that neither lane was being used when I was there.  It seems like such a great idea for the little ones.  I can’t wait to take my granddaughter here to try it  out! I would suggest that if you are just going with your own child or two, call to find out if they are in use.

My visit here was during vacation week, and at 10:30 in the morning it was quite busy! Everyone seemed to be having a great time!

The staff aims to please. Call (631) 732 – 2022,  with any questions and they will try to accommodate you.

Update:  I finally got the  chance to take my  four year old granddaughter to Coram’s  mini lanes.  We also had her slightly older cousins with us. It was a huge hit! Everyone had a wonderful time.  These smaller lanes (which can be used with or without bumpers) and smaller balls were perfect for the younger set!

As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, http://www.coramcountrylanes.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
