Having passed Bluebird Kitchen several times, and having several people recommend it, a friend and I decided to visit it for lunch. What a pleasant surprise! The modern, open, airy and bright “blue” decor, plus easy accessibility, made us feel quite welcome.
Three van accessible parking spaces in the paved lot are very close to the ramp leading to the double door entrance. A small entryway and another set of double doors get you to the welcome area, where we found two benches (just in case you have to wait).
The restaurant is very spacious, with ample space to navigate throughout. There are tables (both high and low), as well as booths, banquettes, and a large, full height bar. Chairs are armless and floors are smooth. There is also a heated, outdoor dining area, which I hope to try on my next visit.
The menu, although not large, offers a good variety of items. One of us had what she described as an “amazing” hamburger and I had the Frittata of the day, which was absolutely delicious. I must mention that my decaf coffee was outstanding! Our server was very pleasant and made sure that everything was to our liking. Needless to say, we agree with the website when it says that they serve “…a thoughtful menu of exactly what you want.” An “evolving seasonal menu,” also sounds great!
Multi-stall restrooms with a large, accessible stall, and baby changing station are located in the rear of the dining room. Wheelchair or walker users may have a problem getting to them because there are high-chairs piled up in the corner where you have to turn to get to the hallway where the restrooms are. We hope that they will remedy that soon.
All in all, our visit to Bluebird Kitchen was very enjoyable. Delicious food in an pleasant, unhurried atmosphere made for a great lunch.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.bluebirdkitchen,com, when planning a visit, to “Know more before you go.”
