We like to eat lunch and we feel that our Destination:Accessible users are of a like mind. Since Applebee’s Grill & Bar has more than 2000 locations across the U.S., we decided it was time to check one out. We went to our local one on South Broadway, in Hicksville. We think they are all built the same, but this review is about this location.
Applebee’s is very well known through its TV ads and physical presence on many roads. The chain’s philosophy is “serving good food to good people.” It’s nice when travelling to see a familiar spot where you know there will be few surprises.
This location has ample parking with 5 designated handicapped spots in the paved lot. It is a short walk to the entrance, which consists of a large single door, a small vestibule and then another door. Tables and chairs and the full-height bar are located on this level. Up a few steps, or a ramp, is another dining level with booths, tables with chairs. There is plenty of room to maneuver. The restrooms are in the hallway at the rear of the restaurant close to the ramp. The multi-stall restrooms have a handicapped accessible stall and a baby changing station.
This is a very good place to meet friends for a cocktail, meal or late night snack. Benches are outside to wait for latecomers.
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website www.applebees.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
