If you are headed to a performance at The Boulton Center, and want a place to get something to eat and/or drink, we think American Standard Whisky & Bar is a great choice.
This is “…a classic bar and grill featuring over 250 high-end bourbons and whiskeys, specializing in southern inspired cuisine and comfort food, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients.” (website) Live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, make it even more appealing.
We stopped in for a casual dinner before a performance. There are many dining establishments quite close to the theater. This one was great for us.
Street parking is metered, but there is a very large parking lot behind the theater, with a wide walkway to reach it.
Street-level, double doors lead to what we would describe as a very welcoming vibe. High ceilings and wood decor highlight the long, full-height bar, both high – top and regular tables, as well as banquettes. All seating is well-spaced, for easy navigation. Chairs are armless.
A lovely women welcomed us and led us to a banquette. Since it was early we didn’t have any trouble getting a table. By the time we left, there was a line (they only take reservations for six or more).
The menu has a definite southern inspiration, as well as standard pub fair. One of us ordered the Shrimp Po Boy and loved it. The rest of us had a variety of salads, which were all good too.
Our server was quite gracious, making sure to check on us regularly.
A really pleasant surprise were the restrooms. Large, single-occupancy, accessible restrooms even have low soap dispensers and towel dispensers to easily accommodate someone in a wheelchair. Kudos to this venue for doing this! We really appreciate it.
All in all, we had a lovely dining experience before walking three doors away to the theater. What more could one ask for?
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website when planning a visit, to “know more before you go.”
