On Saturday evening we were introduced to an outstanding Greek restaurant in Nesconset, Acropolis. Everything about it was wonderful!
From the warm, friendly greeting when we arrived, to the pleasant, attentive service and fabulous food, we knew we had found a new favorite.
Located in Nesconset Plaza, there is ample parking in the paved lot. Four accessible spaces are located in the middle. You must go to the right of the entrance, to the end of the concrete sidewalk, to access the sidewalk without needing to step up. There is a street-level, single door entrance, a small entryway and another single door to enter. This brings you to the full-height bar area to your right. Near here there is a small area with several booths. Walking past the bar brings you to the welcome person, who was very friendly, We learned from the friends who brought us, that since Acropolis does not take reservations, we were wise to come early, especially on a Saturday evening. We were lucky to get seated pretty quickly.
Once seated, the most delicious chick peas and pita were brought to the table. They chick peas so good it was difficult not to devour the entire bowl! The pita were delicious as well, soft and warm. This was only the beginning of our amazing dinners. Both the lemon and chicken orzo soups were luscious. The greek salad was one of the best I have ever had. Everything that everyone ordered, from the Spinach Pie, to the Mediterranean Chicken, Loucas Special, Chicken Gyro and Chicken Souvlaki was incredible. The portions were large enough for everyone to have at least one more meal.
Seating in the main dining room is at tables and armless chairs. Although not spacious, there is ample space to navigate among tables. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, with a fireplace adding to the ambiance.
Large, accessible, single-occupancy restrooms are located in a hallway near the kitchen. The sinks are wheelchair accessible, and the soap and towels are easily reached by someone using a wheelchair. The top of a dresser can serve as a baby-changing station.
We loved everything about this place and will be back soon. We know you will too.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.akropolisrestaurantny.com, when planning a visit to know more before you go.
