Having enjoyed Sangria 71 in Commack, we were looking forward to dining at the East Williston location. We certainly were not disappointed. Although the venues are physically different, the food and service were as lovely as we have always experienced in Commack. The following statement on their website sums it up well. They are a “…family style restaurant specializing in the flavors of Spain by offering a fine assortment of tapas, steaks, chicken, seafood, as well as paellas, sangrias, and a fine selection of Spanish wines in a festive, casual atmosphere.” One cannot overlook the delicious “homemade” potato chips!
Located directly on Hillside Ave, parking needs to be found on the street, or the municipal lot around the corner. We had no trouble finding a nearby spot on the street on a Saturday evening.
A street-level, single door, small entryway and another door lead to the welcome area. The full-height bar is to the right and several dining rooms to the left. As in Commack, the inviting decor is Spanish, with low lighting and adequate space between the tables.
We had asked to be seating on the patio, which is at the back. As we walked towards the back of the dining room, I could see that there were steps ahead. Before getting to the steps one has to navigate over a “lip,” to get from inside to out. After that, you have six steps up to the tented, brick, patio. It is lovely up here, but know that this is what is involved in dining outside.
Once we were seated, our server was gracious in giving us plenty of time to “catch up” with our friends, and have drinks and appetizers before making a decision about our entree choices. After much consideration, three of us chose paella and one went with the stuffed shrimp. A family style salad was an added treat. Desserts were delicious as well. The churros with chocolate sauce were amazing! We couldn’t have asked for better service or food. It was wonderful that the portions were so large that there was more to enjoy the next day!
There is a large, single-occupancy, accessible restroom with accessible sink. Access to this restroom could present a problem as there is a dining table located close to the door.
Sangria 71, Williston Park, will become another “go to” for us.
