For over 40 years, the Bonwit Inn resided at 1 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, in Commack. Closing in 2020, but to Covid, the address is now home to Limani Grill. A full makeover has transformed the venue into a Greek inspired, beautiful venue with food and service to match. The website states, “The highest quality ingredients, the freshest seafood, grouped with Limani’s rendition of Greek hospitality, are all part of the recipe – perfect in its simplicity.” We couldn’t agree more.
The large parking lot has three accessible spaces close to the street-level, double door main entrance. A lovely entryway leads to another set of double doors, after which you find yourself at the check-in area. The modern, yet soft, decor is very welcoming. Floors have wood and tile. The bar/lounge area has a full-height bar, booths, and comfortable settees, which were great for our leisurely lunch. We felt like we were being served in our own home! The combination of tables, banquettes, and booths, all very well spaced, make for easy navigation and conversation. There is a lovely, glass enclosed, outdoor patio (not open yet for the season.) Unfortunately, the view from out here is of the parking lot. We cannot speak for the noise level when the restaurant is full, but for our lunch it was peaceful and serene.
We were surprised to find bread was served. We have noticed that many restaurants are not serving bread, or are charging for it, so we thought this was a very nice touch. The bread, and accompanying spreads were excellent, and just the beginning of a delicious meal. We opted for the pre-fixe lunch. Greek salad with very fresh feta, and a variety of dips with pita started us off. Bronzino and a kabob were wonderful choices of main courses. The walnut sponge cake for dessert made us want to return very soon! We must mention that our server was extremely pleasant and professional. He made sure that everything was to our liking and checked on us regularly, without us feel rushed.
Take note: if you are invited to an event on their upper floor, you need to be able to walk 16 steps to get there, as there is no elevator.
Multi-stall restrooms have a large, easily accessible stall and accessible sinks. There are no baby-changing facilities.
We thoroughly enjoyed Limani Grill, and will be back.
