After a round of Pitch and Putt golf at Robert Moses Park, we were ready for some lunch. We headed to the boat basin at Captree State Park. We knew that there was a restaurant on the dock, but did not know anything about it.
We pulled into the paved parking lot and found four handicapped spaces close to the restaurant. The dock was bustling with people, as several fishing charters had just come in. Although many people did not have masks on, we were able to keep more than adequate distance as we walked to the restaurant. Located at the center of the dock, we found a take-out area, as well as an outdoor, sit-down section. If one chooses there is service up a flight of steps. The view up there may be nice but, it is not open-air (only windows.) We were able to get a table ( they are well spaced) with a good view of the dock and all that was going on. It was wonderful to sit, relax and people watch. The fishing boats kept coming and going, people excited about their catches, or the prospect of their catches. Our server was lovely and very attentive, making sure that we had plenty of water and anything else we wanted. Our cod sandwich and cobb salad were quite good. Along with everyone wearing masks, and a large, NY State, hand-sanitizer station at the front, we were quite happy with our choice of venue, both for our lunch and an enjoyable view.
Multi-stall restrooms with a large-handicapped stall and wheelchair accessible sinks, are located in a separate location in the building. There is easy access is from the walkway.
We think this is a great place for a relaxing outdoor meal or drink, in an interesting location. There is a fishing (or walking ) pier easily accessible at one end of the dock, as well as a playground. After finishing our lunch we took a stroll along the pier. It was a perfect ending to our day!
As always, we at Destination:Accessible, advise you to check a venue’s website, www.tikijoesbeachclub.com when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
