Description

Tanner Park is located on Kerrigan Road, Copaigue. There are handicapped-accessible, parking spaces throughout the paved parking lot, with six near the beach pavilion.

Concrete paths and walkways lead to walking and fishing piers into the Great South Bay.

Easily accessible multi-stall restrooms are located within the pavilion. They have large, handicapped-accessible stalls, wheelchair accessible sinks and baby-changing stations.

There is a seasonal restaurant (Scully's Wharf) at the pavilion.

If you are a town of Babylon resident you can visit this gem of a park at any time. If you aren’t, you can either pay the non-resident fee or visit after 5:00pm, when fees are no longer collected. An invitation to a networking event brought us here after 5:00 pm on a beautiful, summer afternoon. We had no idea where it was, and were happy to have a GPS to help us find our way.

The park itself is quite large, with a variety of fields, a senior center, fishing pier, walking pier, band shell, beach and restaurant. There are handicapped-accessible parking spaces throughout the large lot, with six close to the pavilion.

We made our way to the beach area and Sully’s Wharf – the beachside restaurant with a gorgeous setting. Plenty of outside seating made social distancing easy. Everything is easily accessible, walkways are flat, doors to the restaurant were open. There are no mobi-mats or beach wheelchairs – but even without those, one is close enough to the water to enjoy the beautiful view from the stone patio. 

The main thing that will draw us back to this park is the walking pier that extends into the Great South Bay. Take a walk on the well-maintained wooden pier and feel as though you are standing on the water. Although there are no benches on this pier you can choose to walk along the nearby paved walkway facing the water. There is seating here, so  you can sit and enjoy the view. 

There is a splash park for the kids, a fishing pier, (a bit of a distance from the restaurant and restrooms) and a band-shell for concerts. The seasonal restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday (we believe 3:00 – 8:00).

Multi-stall restrooms, with a large handicapped-stall.wheelchair accessible sink, and baby-changing station, are easy to access.  

This is a beautiful venue that was a terrific surprise for us. We will surely return.
