Smuggler Jack's is located at 157 Forest Avenue, Massapequa. There is one handicapped-accessible (van) parking space in the paved parking lot.

Outdoor dining is available on the multi-level patio. No steps are required to get to any of the umbrella- covered tables. Tables are well-spaced. All staff have masks.

Multi-stall restrooms have a large, handicapped-accessible stall, baby-changing station and wheelchair accessible sink.

During the summer we are always looking for outdoor, waterfront dining on Long Island. With the COVID crisis, we are also looking for venues that provide information and measures that make us feel safe when visiting.  Of course, it isn’t a given that saying something makes it so, but we feel that writing something at least tells us of their intentions. “Restaurant Rules,” are clearly printed on Smuggler Jack’s website, for all to see.

 An email from a friend telling about their experience at Smuggler Jack’s, made us want to check it out. First stop, their website, which was a wealth of information on measures they are taking to insure a good experience for all.  Next step, a visit. We headed there for a late lunch. Whenever possible we have found that a late lunch/early dinner is generally less crowded. It also helps to get a table of your choosing. This was certainly that case at 3:00 pm at Smuggler Jack’s. 

The paved parking lot is next to the restauant. There is one dedicated, handicapped space next to the the ramp leading to the entrance. Usually, one would go up the ramp (or steps) to the entrance. At this time, we were able to stay outside to get to our table. There are several patio levels, all of which can be easily accessed without steps. All of the tables are well-spaced and have umbrellas overhead. Located on a canal, we were able to relax and enjoy the boats coming and going, some pulling into the spaces the restaurant has available for transients. 

All of the staff wore masks. We were happy to see the cleansing of tables and chairs as each party left. Menus can be scanned. Plastic ware and paper were in abundance. Our server was lovely and efficient. Our food was delicious. Even though the temperature was in the mid 90s we were quite comfortable sitting under an umbrella and enjoying a breeze from the water. We were never rushed and certainly well cared for. It felt a bit like a mini-vacation.

Multi-stall restrooms with a large, handicapped stall and baby-changing station are located in a hallway at the front of the restaurant. Coming from the patio one needs to walk towards the front and turn right. Although the sink does not appear to be, it is wheelchair accessible.
