An invitation to a workshop on stress reduction brought us to the Roslyn Salt Cave, “…a controlled holistic environment that simulates the micro-climate of a naturally occurring salt cave.” (website)
The parking lot in front of the building has three handicapped spaces. There are two steps up from the lot, or you can choose a gradual incline walkway. Once up here, we found the single door entrance to the shop and check-in counter. This area (with seating) sets the stage for serenity. There are several small “treatment rooms” and a single-occupancy, handicapped-accessible restroom in the hallway leading to the actual “cave.” “When you step inside you are transported back in time.” One walks on the salt and sits down in one of the zero gravity chairs that are on both sides of this space. If walking is a problem for you, there are people to assist in getting you to a chair. If you are a wheelchair user, it is possible to enter the cave in it.
In this incredibly relaxing setting, we were guided in some activities to further relax. We couldn’t believe how good we felt when the workshop ended.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.roslynsaltcave.com, to “know before you go.”
