A business lunch brought me to Havana Central in Roosevelt Field. Although this is a huge mall, with many parking spaces, many of them near the restaurant have been closed off for valet parking. Valet parking would be OK, but you have to walk around the corner to one of the nearby restaurants to avail yourself of that service. A row of twelve handicapped spaces are located not far from the entrance to the restaurant, but it may be better to drop a passenger off at the curb in front of the entrance and then park. There are several benches just outside the entrance.
The street-level, double door entrance to the restaurant is not located within the mall. If you are in the mall for any reason, you must exit to enter Havana Central. A small entryway and another set of double doors get you to the spacious welcome area and lovely hosts/hostesses. The restaurant is visually beautiful and spacious. Several dining areas with tables, (both high top and low,) banquettes, semi-private booths, a lounge area with a bar that has wheelchair access as well as high-top tables and booths, all have plenty of room to easily navigate across the tile floor. The ceilings are high, the decor a combination of sophistication and fun!
Our group was in one of the private rooms with a “personal menu.” Their website describes the cuisine as, “…real Cuban “home cooking,” with “dishes familiar to Cubans who grew up in a traditional Cuban household.” If our entrees were an indication of the food served here, I must return! Everyone in our group enjoyed their choices! Our servers were friendly and efficient, with attention to our needs.
Multi-stall restrooms with a large handicapped -accessible stall are located in a hallway at the rear of the main dining room. They have wheelchair-accessible sinks and baby-changing stations.
We have heard that this is a very lively place in the evening, with live entertainment on some nights. You will have to check this out for yourself.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.havanacentral.com, when planning a visit, toknow before you go.
