As we parked our car and headed to the movies, we noticed a new venue next door, Round 1 Entertainment. Having never head of it, I just had to stop in for a visit after the movie.
This is a, “…sate-of-the-art entertainement center, offering fun the whole family can enjoy… (it is a)”…multi-entertainment facility offering Bowling , Arcade Games, Billiards, Darts, Karaoke, Ping Pong and (in some locations) a Kids Zone Play area…” Their “…aim is to provide endless entertainment to everyone, everywhere, in everyday life.” (website)
The company got its start in Japan, with its first store opening in 1993. This is a massive venue. Two levels not only have all of the activities listed above, they also have a large snack and party area. Floors are carpeted, with plenty of space to navigate. Escalators, steps or elevator go to both levels. Except for the snack area, there do not appear to be any places for one to sit down to rest. There is ample parking in the huge Broadway Mall parking lots. There are eight handicapped spaces close to the entrancce and many more throughout the lot.
We walked through the street-level, autormatic doors, and were amazed by the variety of games we found. I did not recognize most of the arcade games they have. Many of them look like fun. A few looked intimidating ! As I stood and watched some of the players, I questioned whether or not I would even be able to play them. We then made our way to the lower level. We found the Bowling, Darts, Billiards, Ping Pong, Karaoke, Party and Snack Bar areas. Every activity that has steps also has a ramp leading to it, accommodating anyone unable to manage the steps. There is a separate bowling area that seems to have a party room associated with it – nice to be a bit separate from the crowds. The counter service snack area has both high and low tables with ample space between them.
Mult-stall restrooms, with a large, handicapped-accessible stall and baby-changing station are located on the lower level.
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.round1USA.com, when planning a visit, to know before you go.
