We had passed the sign on the Belt Parkway for Resorts World Casino many times. Not being serious gamblers, we didn’t feel a real pull to visit, but being curious, I did want to see it. As we drove up, we were surprised to see the amount of construction going on. Located adjacent to Aqueduct Race Track, one can easily go from one to the other without going outside. A large, full-service hotel is being built, along with increasing the size of the gaming area.
If you do not wish to use the valet parking, there is a large drop-off area directly in front of the street-level, main entrance. A dedicated handicapped parking lot, with more than 20 spaces, is close by.
Walking inside, we found that we were on the entry level. Escalators and elevators go to the second and third floors, where the action (and food) is. The Food Court offers burgers, chicken and Chinese options, as well as coffee, drinks, ice cream and the usual fare. There is ample space between the many tables. here. The fine dining restaurant was not open when we were here.
The fully automated gaming areas have flat carpet. All of the games have moveable, low seats, making it somewhat easier for wheelchair users.
Large, multi-stall restrooms have four handicapped stalls. As one would expect, there are no baby-changing facilities. Upon asking about single-occupancy restrooms, I was told that they are not available because they are located in the hallway where the construction is taking place. No one seems to know when they will be available.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to check a venue’s website, www.rwnewyork.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
