Description
The Museum of Sex is located at 233 Fifth Avenue, NYC. Parking has to be found in a nearby garage. Check the Museum's website for parking suggestions. Street-level, double doors are followed by a single door to enter.The Museum has four floors. Steps or an elevator go to all floors. Wheelchair users should ask for assistance at the admissions desk. The only bench I saw was in the exhibit gallery on the fourth floor. There are no food services but,there is a bar in the Disco Exhibit that opens at 3:00 pm.

In case you weren’t sure, The Museum of Sex is a legitimate venue in New York City. Its mission is, “to preserve and present the history, evolution and cultural significance of human sexuality…It is committed to encouraging public enlightenment discourse and engagement.” (website)
Since I had an appointment close by, I decided to take some time to visit. At first look, it is simply a store on 5{SUP()}th{SUP} Avenue, with street-level double doors, a small vestibule and then a single door.
Inquiring about admission to the museum, I was directed to a tiled hallway at the end of which I found the full-height admission counter. In this area there is a Disco exhibit (which one doesn’t have to pay admission for). The bar in this exhibit opens at 3:00 pm, if you want to get a taste of what the Disco scene was like. I found two, single-occupancy, handicapped-accessible restrooms back here as well.
I was directed back to the store area, where the Museum entrance is located. Through the entrance way is a narrow hallway with two steps down and then 20 steps up to the exhibit on the second floor. From here it was another 20 steps to the third floor exhibit, and yet another 21 steps to the fourth floor. Just in case you decided at this point that this is way too many steps for you, note that there is an elevator you might want to take advantage of. Wheelchair users will be escorted to the elevators and assisted throughout. I was assured that there is no need to call ahead for this, just ask when you arrive. The only gallery with a bench in it is on the fourth floor. The fourth floor has two, small, single occupancy restrooms (not handicapped-accessible), with narrow doors. If you need a handicapped restroom, be sure to use the ones on the main floor!
Different exhibits covered a variety of topics; including several interactive ones. I found some of the exhibits more interesting than others, but all were done in a very tasteful manner. Definitely an interesting destination!
