We had been to the Secret Tea Garden before, and always had a truly wonderful experience, but we had never been there during the Holiday Season.  The decorations were always beautiful, and I think these holiday decorations are “over the top.” Simply beautiful – there is even a Christmas tree decorated with tea cups and saucers.

Located in the heart of Port Jefferson, parking needs to be found on the street (make sure to look at the parking signs) or in one of the municipal lots around the corner.

Enter the street-level, single door entrance and be instantly transported to a quaint tea shoppe, complete with beautiful treasures to purchase. We decided to save the shopping for after our “high tea.”

We were escorted to the cafe area, exquisitely decorated for the season. Everywhere you look, there are beautiful, tasteful decorations. Flat carpet and ample space between tables make navigation easy. The space between tables also makes for an intimate experience. The table settings are so lovely, All of the china is different for each place setting. Napkins were folded in the shape of trees, and each setting gets a small card with an inspirational saying on it. What great conversation starters! Almost, forgot, each tea pot is different as well.

We were so busy talking about the decorations, etc. it was hard to even look at the menu. When we finally got to it, we saw that there are regular lunch offerings as well as the tea service. We opted for a “high tea” and a children’s “high tea.” We were pleased to find that they easily accommodated a vegetarian, and we willing to change some of the options available. Our server couldn’t have been more pleasant and accommodating. I don’t know how many varieties of tea are listed on the menu, but there are so many that it was difficult to make a decision. Children’s tea came with an entire pot of hot chocolate!  Everything is made “in house,” and was delicious. The gingerbread and mint scones were so good that we had to bring two of them home for “grandpa.”

In case you did not wear your “high tea hat, there is an area in the rear, near the restrooms, with a variety of chapeaus you can choose from to complete your experience. What a sweet idea!

After our wonderful tea we spent some time looking around the shop. There were so many pretty things to choose from. The final choice was a lovely china ornament of a three tiered tea service similar to what we had. It was a perfect remembrance of a perfect experience!

Two, single-occupancy restrooms are located in the rear. The one on the left is accessible. Both are decorated with the same detail as the restaurant – amazing ! 

Of course, we will be back!
