We had not been to Lotus since they reopened after their fire and renovation. When we finally got there, we were happy to see that venue is new and lovely, but the food is still as good as it always was.
The entrance is still in the rear, from the parking lot. There are seven dedicated spaces for the restaurant, directly behind the restaurant. None of these are accessible. There are four dedicated, accessible spaces in the municipal lot that is back there as well.
If you cannot manage the four stone steps to the single-door entrance, there is a concrete ramp leading to it. Once inside, there is a small entryway and then another door leading to the welcome area.
As I said in my opening, the restaurant has a lovely modern vibe. It is not overwhelming, and feels very welcoming. Tables, booths and a full-height bar ,are all well spaced, making ffor easy navigation throughout. There is also a “semi-private” seating area, that will accommodate 8.
The menu continues to be a fusion of traditional and contemporary Japanese and Chinese dishes. Four of us sampled dumplings, seaweed salad, scallion pancakes, Thai Mango Chicken, Chicken and Steak Hunan Style, and Beef with Black Bean Sauce. Everything was delicious!
Our server was quite pleasant and accommodating, which made our evening even more enjoyable.
The only area of disappointment was with the restrooms. They are single-occupancy, with an accessible toilet, but not an accessible sink. It is too bad that they did not choose to complete the accessibility of the restrooms.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.lotusrestaurantny.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go,”
