Dinner with friends on a Saturday evening.  Where to go?  We wound up at Sandbar, in the heart of the village in Cold Spring Harbor. None of us had ever been there, but, after our experience, we will surely return!

We easily found a spot on the street, but the municipal lot is almost directly across the street.

Entering the main entrance requires one step up from the stone sidewalk. If this is difficult, there is a ramp on the left side of the building, leading to an accessible entrance.

From the main entrance, the first thing one sees is the bar/lounge area. A full-height bar along with high-tables are located here. Even though we were here early for a Saturday evening, this area was almost full!  Wood flooring, high ceilings, and soft lighting are part of the lovely décor throughout. Banquettes, tables and chairs are adequately spaced in the dining area.  There is what appears to be a semi-private dining area in the rear that requires two steps up.

Having dinner with friends one hasn’t seen in a while generally involves talking for a bit before getting around to looking at the menu.  It was nice that, after taking our drink order, our server was not pushy about getting us to order. He was pleasant and efficient.  When we finally got around to placing our orders, everything was excellent.  All of our requests were taken care of in a very professional manner. Each of our choices was delicious!

A very large, handicapped-accessible, single-occupancy restroom is located in the rear of the dining room.  There is no baby-changing facility.  There are more  restrooms downstairs.

As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, http://www.lessings.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
