After seeing a performance at the Broadhollow at Elmont, we wanted a bite to eat. Since it was after 10 pm we weren’t interested in a big meal. We thought a diner would be fine. Several blocks from the theater, right on Hempstead Turnpike we found Stop 20 Diner. Open 24/7 , this was just what we wanted.
We parked in the paved, parking lot, which has two handicapped (van)-accessible spaces. There are four steps or a ramp to the single door entrance. A small vestibule with a bench and then a set of double doors led to the host.
This is a typical diner set up, booths, tables, and a long counter. Although not spacious, there is adequate room to navigate.
Diners usually have extensive menus. The Step 20 is no exception. Everyone made different choices and all were happy when they arrived. Our server made sure that we had everything we needed/wanted in a pleasant and professional manner.
Multi-stall restrooms are located in a “restroom area,” requiring a door to enter. The women’s restroom is single-occupancy, handicapped-accessible with a baby-changing table. The men’s room is multi-occupancy with a handicapped-accessible stall. Getting into the men’s restroom is a bit tight.
As always we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, to “know before you go.” Stop 20 Diner does not have a website, so it would be best to call (516) 358 – 7142, with any questions.
