An evening business event brought me to Captain Bill’s, in the Bay Shore Marina.  As I drove into the large, paved parking lot I did not notice any handicapped spaces.  I parked, walked up a step to the stone and wooden porch and another two stone steps to the double door entrance.  That was when I noticed the handicapped icon and arrow pointing to the right.  I followed it, went around to the back and found a lovely , welcom circle with brick walkway and handicapped parking.  Street level, double doors are here to welcome you to a carpeted hallway, catering rooms, multi-stall restroms with large handicapped stalls, the main dining room and large, lounge area.

The hostess showed me to the loung area where the event was being held.  A very large, full-height bar, tile floor, and tables and chairs with adequate space between them are in a lovely nautical themed room.  Many of our group were already there and it was not crowded.

The bar menu was good, the servers for our group very attentive, accommodating everyone’s requessts with good humor.

“The history of Captain Bill’s dates back to the 1920s, when local fishermen would run fishing boats out of a small wooden structure at the foot of Ocean Avenue. Captain B ill Eccleston began expanding on the building and the legend of Captain Bill’s was born.  The current owners…have been keeping the legend alive since 1998.” (website)

When I approached the hostess with some questions she generously offered to give me a tour.  The main dining room, with banquettes, booths, adequately spaced tables and tile floor makes navigation easy.  The large windows  offer a great view of the marina.  The views must be wonderful in daylight, and particularly at sunset!

Several party rooms are conveniently located on this main floor.  These rooms are fortunate to have access to outdoor decks for good weather events. The Bayview House is a separate entity for weddings (contact the restaurant for information (631) 665 – 6262).

Several people at my event said they have enjoyed Sunday Bruch here. We will have to  it.

As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.captainbills.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
