Recommendations are often a good way to find a new restaurant. So, try we did, going with the friends who had taken the people who had given us the recommendation (Hope that wasn’t too confusing!)
Parking was easy in the paved parking lot (one handicapped space). We were told that on weekends, when the place is “packed” they offer valet parking.
A brick walkway led to five steps and the single door main entrance. A small vestibule and another single door got us to the hostess. The wheelchair entrance is located up a ramp on the right side of the building, facing the parking lot. Once inside, one has to navigate through the back area near the kitchen, to get to the dining rooms. Doable, but not pretty! I was quite disappointed with this arrangement, but after our evening here I have to say that it might be worth doing. The management asks that if you require assistance, please call ahead and they will do everything they can to help you.
Lisbon Café is cozy, with an intimate yet friendly feeling. Their website says it is “…all about family… (their) goal is to give you a little taste of Portugal and have you leaving with a smile on your face.” As far as we are concerned, mission accomplished!
Tables and chairs are adequately spaced for navigation and conversation. There are two dining areas and a full-height bar.
We were lucky to get a corner table which was easily expanded to accommodate the large plates used for serving. Delicious chips, bread and olives greeted us as we sat down. We much appreciated the large carafe of water that was left for us.
Our server, Christina, could not have been nicer or more efficient, as well as genuinely friendly.
What to order? Always a problem for me, as I can never decide. Mark and I decided to share a family size serving of a dish that our friends had tried before. It was delicious! Family style salad accompanied the entrees, a lovely touch. Excellent desserts and coffee made for a delicious ending to a wonderful dinner. An unhurried meal with good friends, wonderful food and service made for a memorable evening.
Large, single-occupancy, handicapped-accessible restrooms are easy to get to, easy to enter and exit. There is no baby-changing station.
We were here on a weekday and so the restaurant wasn’t crowded. We were told by our friends that if you want a weekend reservation you need to make it well in advance. Be forewarned!
We will definitely be taking others to this new “go to” place for us.
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, http://www.lisboncaferestaurant.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
