Let All the Children Play (LATCP) and other playgrounds in Eisenhower Park

There are three large playgrounds in Eisenhower Park, two of which have handicapped-accessible structures.

LATCP (Let All the Children Play) Playground is located near Parking Field 4. This playground has safety surfacing, accessible pathways wide enough for a wheelchair , custom equipment and structures. The merry-go-round is wheelchair accessible. There are adaptive swings, a rope bridge, and a variety of other equipment. There are benches throughout. Single-occupancy, handicapped-accessible restrooms with baby-changing stations are nearby.

A second accessible playground is located near the Hempstead Turnpike entrance. It is smaller than LATCP, but has many of the same accessible structures.

We did not see a restroom close by.

The third playground (not handicapped-accessible) is located near the tennis courts.

After a lovely walk around the lake, we decided to do an update on the LATCP (Let All The Children Play) Playground. We made our way over to see if anything had changed since the last time we were here. The only real difference was the number of children here. Our last visit was in summer and it was quite crowded.  Today, between COVID and winter, it was almost empty.

The playground is “…designed to stimulate children with and without disabilities and to promote their interactions together… to help children develop gross and fine motor skills and cultivate balance and spatial perception…a place where children can discover and learn while naturally developing kindness and sensitivity towards one another without regard to their abilities.” (website) With safety surfacing throughout, accessible pathways wide enough for a wheelchair, sand and water play areas (summer)  that can be accessed with a wheelchair, custom equipment and structures, parents and children can be happy.  Adaptive swings, a merry-go-round where a wheelchair can be locked in place alongside benches for other kids, and a wooden rope bridge, are only some of the great things to be found here. (website) There are plenty of benches where one can easily keep an eye on the little ones.

Close by, a free-standing building houses single-occupancy, handicapped-accessible,  restrooms, with baby-changing stations and wheelchair accessible sinks.

There are two other playgrounds within the park, one of which offers handicapped-accessible structures.  It is not as large as the LATCP Playground, but still very nice. We could not find a restroom close to here – a definite problem.

The third playground does not offer any specific handicapped-accessible equipment, and does not have a restroom close by (that we could find)

As far as parking is concerned, there are handicapped-accessible parking spaces in all of the paved lots. We advise checking the park map for specific locations of the playgrounds. A sign on one of the closed restrooms, says to check the map to find restrooms that are open. Unfortunately, the map did not show anything other than where restrooms are located.
