A beautiful, sunny morning at end of April brought us to the town of Tiburon, Calfiornia.
Apparently known mostly as one of the places to catch a fast ferry to Angel Island or San Francisco, we decided to check it out for a future trip. We knew we didn’t have enough time for a trip on this particular day, but we did have time for a walk around town and a late breakfast.
Tiburon is located north of San Francisco, in Marin, County. The town that got its name from the Spanish word for shark, “tiburon,” because of a prevalence of leopard sharks in the waters.
We found a variety of shops, eating establishments with waterfront dining, and a lovely shoreline path. Views of the city of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge make the view spectacular. With many benches along the shoreline it is easy to stop and enjoy the view.
The shoreline path area used to be the railroad terminus and ferry port. When trains no longer ran here, Southern Pacific Railway deeded its shoreline property and depot building to the town of Tiburon for open space and a museum as a condition of redevelopment. (website) (See Railroad and Ferry Depot listing).
We found easy street parking on a weekday morning. Several all day parking lots are also available near the Bank of America and CVS Pharmacy.
This is a lovely place to spend a few hours and perhaps have a drink or dine at one of the waterfront venues.
Public restrooms are available at the ferry terminal. They are multi-stall, with a large, handicapped-accessible stall and baby-changing station.
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, www.townoftiburon.org, when planning your visit, to “know before you go.”
