At the bottom of a Cleveland Tourist Map, was an ad for the b.a. Sweetie candy company. Loving candy, we knew we had to take a look before leaving the city. We programmed the GPS and drove to 6770 Brookpart Road. From the road, we saw the colorful lollipop sign and proceeded onto the paved parking lot with designated handicapped spaces right in front. We walked through the double doors, grabbed a shopping cart and began our journey down the aisles of the spacious 40,000 square foot warehouse.
“Established in 1950, Sweeties has been recognized as the largest candy store in North America!”(website) We were definitely in Candyland. Every type of candy from old to new is here in mega quantities. Favorites from our childhood were right in front of us. We passed an entire aisle of Pez and Pez dispensers. Another aisle had wax lips and moustaches and marshmallow ice cream cones. If a candy is still in production, it is sold here.
After gazing in awe at the shelves stacked with candy, soda and novelty items and seeing that we had filled our carts, we decided it was time to get on the road. We headed to the rear of the store where the multi-stall restrooms are located. Inside is a handicapped accessible unit and a baby changing station. As we approached the restrooms, our eyes widened when we saw the giant Jelly Belly wall adjacent. 80 varieties were displayed. Could life get any better? We paid for our goodies, happily noting that we had enough for the rest of our trip and beyond.
