We were staying outside of Washington DC, in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. It was rather late and we needed a place to eat.
Luckily for us we came upon the Silver Diner, located at 8101 Fletcher Street, McLean, Virginia.
Two handicapped parking spaces in a large, paved lot are close to the street level, single door entrance.
Although there are many booths, there are also easily accessible tables and chairs, if you prefer.
Multi-stall, handicapped accessible restrooms are easy to enter and exit. Baby changing stations are located in the restrooms.
The staff was quite pleasant and efficient. The food was good. There were some nice changes from the typical diner menu, plus: vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and healthy options, all of which were noted on the menu. We also noticed their local partnerships with farm fresh foods. The spinach and mushrooms I had were definitely fresh, my husband’s turkey was “off the bone” and the biscuit accompanying the meal was light and too good. We imagine that everything else is as good.
This restaurant is one of 15, started in 1989 by two men who traveled to 300 diners across the country in one year for ideas before opening their first Silver Diner in Maryland (website).
If there was a Silver Diner located near us we would definitely make it one of our “”go to”” places. Since there is not, we will have to look for them when we travel.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to check a venue’s website, www.silverr.com, when planning a visit to “know before you go.”
