Description
Fee parking with about ten handicapped spaces is available in an underground garage.Paved walkways go to the outside elevator, which takes you to the courtyard, outside the main entrance of the museum.
The entrance to the museum has very heavy, double doors, with no handicapped-assist button.
Just inside the entrance, a small area of the floor is covered with a material that makes it very difficult to push a wheelchair. This same floor covering is in each of the museum’s three elevators, making entering and exiting them quite challenging.
Galleries are spacious. Some seating is available on the perimeter areas of the second floor. Seating is available on the main floor, both indoors and out.
The sculpture garden and outdoor seating areas are wheelchair accessible.
Multi-stall, handicapped accessible restrooms are located on each floor. Entry and exit is not too difficult. A single-occupancy/family bathroom is located on the main floor, near the others.
A full service bistro and coffee bar is located on the main floor with seating both inside and out.

The Perez Art Museum (PAMM) is a wonderful new space in downtown Miami. It is a “modern and contemporary art museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting international art of the 20th and 21st centuries (website). The museum officially opened one week before my dad and I visited. Although it is officially open, there are still some rough edges.
Underground parking was quite easy with about a dozen handicapped spaces. There are paved walkways with large areas of pebbles between them (I am not sure if this is complete or not).
An elevator took us to the main level, which is located outside the main entrance of the museum. The large open area surrounding the building will be beautiful when complete, with a magnificent view of the water and the Port of Miami. This will surely be a beautiful place to come and enjoy the view. When complete this area will connect to the new science museum (another part of Museum Park), which is expected to be completed next year.
We entered the museum through very heavy double doors that do not have a handicapped assist button. The floor covering just inside the entrance is a material that makes pushing a wheelchair very difficult. The same floor covering material is in all of the elevators, making entering and exiting quite challenging.
The galleries are quite spacious, but lack seating. There is some seating on the perimeter areas of the second floor. Seating is available on the main floor, both inside and out.
A sculpture garden and beautiful outdoor areas are still under construction. Multi-stall handicapped access restrooms are located on each floor. A single-occupancy/family bathroom is located on the main floor, near the others.
A lovely waterfront, full service bistro and coffee bar are located on the main floor. Sit inside or out, enjoy a cup of coffee and/or snack while discussing what you have seen.
We look forward to returning to this venue when the grounds are complete.
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, www.pamm.org, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
