“The Art of the Brick” and Gingerbread Lane enticed me to pay a visit to the NY Hall of Science, located in Corona, Queens, NY.  Having seen Gingerbread Lane before, I knew how terrific it is. The Lego exhibit sounded exciting!

The large, paved, parking lot, with about 20 handicapped parking spaces is located close (about 1/10 mi)  to the main entrance. Passengers can be dropped off at the entrance. There are benches directly across from the street-level, double doors.  Right outside the entrance is a mini-golf course, which is undergoing renovation.

The lobby is quite spacious. Elevators or steps take visitors to all levels. The museum has more than 100,000 square feet of space, with over 450 exhibits, events and workshops.

Gingerbread Lane is charming and amazing, with houses, and an array of wonderful sights for the holiday season. Made entirely of edible  gingerbread, icing, and candy, there is a gingerbread give-away when the exhibit ends. (January 12th) . It has become so large that it takes up its own gallery. 

“The Art of the Brick” is the world’s largest display of Lego art. There are more than 100 pieces using only Lego bricks. Everything from a 20 foot dinosaur, and the Mona Lisa, to Michaelangelo’s David, plus a variety of other works, excite everyone viewing them. There is also an interactive area, where one can create and design his/her own Lego work of art.  It is incredible to see what one man has  created with Lego! 

The museum is an easily accessible,  wonderful place, especially for families.  Most of the exhibits are hands on, along with demonstrations, a maker-space, theater, pre-school area, discovery lab, and other places . On all levels, moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas were happily engaged with the younger family members. A look at the museum’s website shows a wide variety of activities for different age groups.

Large elevators take visitors to each level of the museum. Wide, open staircases allow access as well.  There is ample space for navigation and   some benches throughout.

We were unable to check out the theater. The large outdoor area, which has mini-golf and a playground,  are undergoing renovation.

Multi-stall restrooms, with handicapped accessible stalls are available on each floor. A single-use, family bathroom is located on the main floor, in the Café.  One has to ask a worker in the café to unlock this restroom.

The large café offers packaged food. There is a full-service coffee bar

We can never pass up a stop in the museum shop. The large, Science Shop has some interesting items.

The NY Hall of Science is a great place to take the kids, grandkids, and friends for a great learning experience in a novel way.
