On what was probably the coldest night of the winter, we had tickets to The Staller Center at Stony Brook. We wanted someplace to have something to eat before heading to the theater. Zan’s fit our needs perfectly.
Zan’s is located in the Smith Grove Shopping Center, which is near Smith Haven Mall. Parking is extremely easy in the large parking lot, with six accessible spaces close to the street-level, double door entrance. There is a small entry away and another single door to the front of the venue.
At the front we found the take out counter, with many delicious looking choices.
A lovely person showed us to a spacious booth. Besides the booths, there are tables and chairs (armless). There is also a large, semi-private room in the back where everything can be moved, including the booths! Wow, how great for individuals with a variety of limitations that would be more comfortable there than at a regular table or booth.
Zan’s is Long Island’s largest Kosher Restaurant. It has been in business for over 40 years. After eating here, we can see why they have lasted that long. Famous for their homemade soups, Pastrami and Corned Beef, plus homemade French Fries and Potato Knishes, everything we tried was delicious. Everything is a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth! The portions were so generous that we had enough to take home for another meal.
Another thing that makes a restaurant last, is the service. From our server, to the manager, everyone was lovely and professional. We did not want for anything.
Multi-stall restrooms are located in a wide hallway in the rear. What was wonderful was finding a large, accessible, single-occupancy restroom as well. This shows a commitment to the disabled community that is greatly appreciated. There is also a baby-changing station.
All I can say is that everything about Zan’s was wonderful. We can’t wait to return!
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, www.zan’s-deli.com, when planning a visit, to learn more.
